The Passion of Steve Jobs Affirms Life

Hi Remus! This morning, I read an article on how Steve Jobs was a difficult person to work with.

Because he had so much passion in his work, he had high expectations for his employees.

He had this habit of sometimes just popping into meetings...

Do a quick scan, observe the discussion, and after a few seconds announce to the people there:

With that, he'd leave the meeting.

Well, your initial reaction could be:

"What does he know? We have been working on this project for days and he's telling us we can do better? Does he even understand what we are facing here?"

But Steve Job's intention wasn't to create disappointment.

This was his message to his workers: "Don't Settle."

99°C vs 100°C

When the temperature of water is 99°C, it remains in the liquid state.

By increasing it by 1 degree to 100°C, the water starts to boil and turns into steam.

Steam is used to drive turbogenerators providing most of the world's electric power.

The difference between water and steam is just merely one degree.

But this ONE degree can be the difference between "expectation-defying-awesomeness" and "good."

Most people can do a good job, but not everyone can do an expectation-defying-awesome JOB, one that'll blow people's mind.

Steve Jobs did that, and he MADE others do it by pushing them to put in that additional one percent.

Moral of the story

You can be hot, but if you're not hot enough, you'll probably just remain good enough.
